Mississippi Mud Steppers, 1930
The original version was recorded by the Mississippi Mud Steppers on December 15, 1930 at the King Edward Hotel in Jackson, MS, with Charlie McCoy on banjo-mandolin and Bo Carter on guitar.
The original recording is in E, which lays out nicely on the guitar in open position, but feels awkward on the mandolin. I capoed the mandolin on the second fret and played as if it were in D.
